No. 1 Expert Tuition
I've been teaching Folk Art to beginners for over 30 years, and together with my niece Toni, we'll be right there to teach, support and encourage you as you work through the course.
Teaching you the brushstrokes is actually the easy part. The harder part is helping you overcome that little voice telling you, “I'm not good enough,” making you put things off, expecting perfection or putting everyone and everything else first and feeling guilty for spending time on yourself.
We’ll help you with that too. Most of us have at least one of those little habits, which is why we teach Progress NOT Perfection. Once you acknowledge what's stopping you, keep going, keep making progress, you will amaze yourself with what you're capable of.
No. 2 The Right Tools & Supplies
We're regularly asked, “Can I use the paints and brushes I already have?” While we're introducing you to all these new brushstrokes and techniques, the answer is no, and for a very good reason. Using exactly the same paints and brushes as us takes away the stress if something isn't working, because we can help you fix it. Once you know the basics, you can experiment with all those art supplies you might already have.

A Few Questions You Might Still Have...
Do I need any painting or drawing experience?
Absolutely not. The course was created for complete beginners and we start with your very first brushstroke. You don't need to know how to draw and you don't need to think of yourself as artistic—Folk Art Painting is a skill that you learn through practice and repetition.
How much time do I need each week?
We suggest around a couple of hours each week, but you can break that into short sessions and fit them around your life.
Even 15–20 minutes of painting can help you switch off, feel calmer and keep your skills moving forward.
Can I use paints and brushes I already own?
Not while you're learning the foundations of the course. It's really important that you're using the same paints and brushes as us so your materials behave in the same way as ours and we can troubleshoot properly if something isn't working.
That's why your complete painting kit is included. Once you've learnt the basics, you'll be able to experiment with other paints and brushes if you want to.

Do I have to complete the course in 12 weeks?
We've designed the course around a 12-week goal because having a plan really helps you keep making progress. We'll help you create a 12-week plan that works for you and your life.
But it's a goal, not a deadline. Your lessons are there for you to watch when it suits you, and if life gets in the way, simply pause and pick up where you left off when you're ready.
Can I watch the lessons whenever I want?
Yes. The lessons are online, so you can watch them when it suits you and go back over them whenever you need to. You can pause, rewind and practise alongside us at your own pace.
What happens if I get stuck?
First and foremost, Carol and Toni are there to support you personally. We’ll answer your questions, review your work and help you troubleshoot anything that isn’t quite working.
