Folk Art Painting (also known as Tole Painting) is centuries old and was commonly known as the 'art of the untrained artist' It was used by farmers and peasants to decorate functional items like wedding chests and cheap wooden furniture to improve their surroundings. It can be enjoyed just to doodle in a journal, or paint anything from a greeting card to a wardrobe.
The best bit? We promise you Folk Art is a type of painting ANYONE can do and it's never too late in life to start!
In the 1990s, I had the privilege of studying in Australia, where Folk Art Painting was experiencing a revival, largely due to the influence of talented ladies like Jo Sonja Jansen and Priscilla Hauser in America. Their work in preserving and recreating family heirlooms inspired a resurgence of the craft across the USA, Canada, and Australia. Now with over 30 years of teaching experience and time spent serving as the DecoArt Artist Coordinator, where I trained others to teach Folk Art Painting, I have meticulously developed the Progress NOT Perfection Painting Course to equip complete beginners with all they need to succeed.

The Course includes 12 modules. You will learn brushstrokes with the Round Brush, Flat Brush, Liner Brush and stippling techniques with the Deerfoot Brush. This will teach you the COMPLETE foundation of Folk Art Painting. Think of it as learning to write, once you've learnt the strokes (like letters) you will be able to use them to put different flowers, leaves & designs together (just like words)

Why is it called Progress NOT Perfection Painting?
Many of us struggle with perfection, so the focus is always on progress, as striving to be 'good' or 'perfect' stops us from getting started or causes us to give up along the way. I include optional sessions focused on mindsets such as perfectionism, procrastination, and self-doubt, helping you to progress happily and confidently.
You can learn at your own pace, in your own time. After completing each module, you'll submit an assignment and receive personalised feedback from myself and Toni (my neice). Whether you complete the course in 12 weeks or 12 months (as we understand life can get in the way), we will support you every step of the way.
